faulty command for removing Vbox messages?
« on: May 20, 2018, 04:01:08 PM »
I tried the instructions from the AVLinux manual for removing the Virtual Box messages after booting up the 32bit version of 2018.4.2 and received a "no such file or directory" response. I double checked for typos in the command, either the manual is wrong or I need glasses. Can anyone confirm my findings?

For those curious:
Code: [Select]
/opt/VboxGuestAdditions-5.2.6/./uninstall.sh was the command I used in a root terminal from page 44 in the manual. Is there any reason why it doesn't work? Is this a bug, a rights issue, a faulty location or something else?

Could you post the output of

Code: [Select]
ls /opt
PS. The topic is on wrong section. Could a mod move it?

Something should work!

Code: [Select]
/opt/VBoxGuestAdditions-*/uninstall.sh
Code: [Select]
bash /opt/VBoxGuestAdditions-*/uninstall.sh
Code: [Select]
/opt/VBoxGuestAdditions-*/./uninstall.sh
Assuming you have the uninstaller, right ?
Code: [Select]
ls /opt/VBoxGuestAdditions-*/ ?

Hi,

Since you are in '/opt' outside of your home folder you need to run the command as Root, so in a Root terminal or 'su' to Root in a regular terminal..

There is a typo in the manual. The folder is VBox[...] and not Vbox[...] so substitute the b for B and it works. I run it in root terminal.

You get the gold star. Guest Additions removed with the change in spelling. I don't suppose I deserve any credit for pointing out the problem. No one loves the bringer of bad news  :depressed:
