Cant usb boot AVL2018
« on: April 24, 2018, 11:30:01 AM »
Hi,
Using unetbootin I made a bootable usb stick but it seems impossible to boot.
Looks like it can't find the usb stick after selecting the boot options.

Tried both legacy&uefi , usb2 & 3 ports, different usb stick but no luck.
The sha256 checksum matches so the iso from linuxaudio is OK.

Any tips?
I currently try using dd command.

Yes, Unetbootin stopped working... I don't know why but DD works and there is even a standalone tool now..

See this except from the release announcement:

Quote
*KNOWN ISSUES

-KPTI will introduce a performance hit, it's debatable how much it will impact Audio work but it does have an impact.
*KPTI can be disabled which will restore performance but leave your machine vulnerable to the 'Meltdown' exploit.
-Booting is slower on UEFI computers and getting to login takes longer.
-A recent update of Unetbootin no longer works to create bootable LiveUSB Keys of AV Linux 2018.
-AV Linux contains a new AV Linux DD LiveUSB Writer to write LiveUSB Keys with DD
-For those on other Deb-based Distros this is packaged here:
 http://www.bandshed.net/packages/avl2usb/avl2usb_0.1.1-avlinux8-1_all.deb
-Otherwise writing to USB Key with DD from commandline will also work.

Ooops, forgot the part with Unetbootin incompatibility but,
both DD manually and LiveUSB Writer failed  :(

Open GParted to check partition but got
"Invalid partition table - recursive partition on /dev/sdd." (my usb 4G drive)

I will continue with updated AV2017 iso ,since the mess with wine and KXrepos is fixed.

If more people having problems maybe we can debug it

i just made it with the iso hybrid bootable usb

I had to disable in the BIOS section security the  option "Secure Boot"
then restart and turn on in BIOS boot the option "enable CSM" then the boot loader was able to see the pen drive.!

-ops wrong topic -

So the problem was simple,
I can't boot on UEFI from this image. Booting in legacy is ok ....
Oddly enough , uefi boot works on Virtualbox
 Hope to find a workaround

PS. @sam0th ,are you sure about unetbootin ? You tried 2018 image?
@tony, you may where on wrong topic ,but you gave me the hint to boot on legacy mode !
